Summer 2023 KAL: Planning your Streamline

Welcome to Harmony's next Knit-a-Long! We are so excited to come together to make some gorgeous tanks and tees. This post will walk you through the info you'll need to plan your project.

Pattern

This summer we are knitting the Streamline Tee and/or Streamline Tank by Alexandra Tavel. These patterns are written for sizes XS-4XL. They're made of simple shapes, with no bust or shoulder shaping. They both use Half Fisherman's Rib stitch to create some interest at the hem, neckline, and sides. We think they're super fun patterns!

Both patterns are available for free on Alexandra's blog, linked above. The free versions have a lot of ads, so if you'd prefer an ad-free experience, you can also purchase the patterns on Ravelry. Here are the Ravelry links for the Streamline Tee and Streamline Tank.

Yarn

The tank calls for DK yarn and the tee calls for Worsted, but they have very similar gauges and most DK or worsted yarns would work for either pattern. You could even do a heavy sport if you want a meshy fabric! Here are the summer yarns we carry that we recommend: (Please note, the links below are Ravelry links.)

  • Cascade Noble Cotton: This is a 100% mercerized cotton DK weight yarn. Mercerized cotton has more of a sheen than regular cotton, and doesn't pill as much. Mel knit her first Streamline Tee in Noble Cotton and loved it! Our Noble Cotton sells for $9.50 a skein, and Neon and Handpainted Noble Cotton is $11.50.
  • Noro Sonata: Sonata is a DK-weight blend of cotton, rayon, silk, and nylon. These fibers all take dye differently so when knit up Sonata has a glorious depth of color. Sonata sells for $23 a skein.
  • Cascade Anchor Bay: Anchor Bay is a blend of cotton with superwash merino that will result in a more dense fabric. Merino in summer might sound intimidating but we find this blend to be very comfortable! Anchor Bay retails for $12 a skein.
  • Kelbourne Mojave: Mojave is a lightweight cotton/linen blend that would be so fun held double! You can find lots of marled Mojave projects on Ravelry for color inspiration. We just recently started carrying Mojave, and it sells for $11 a skein.
  • Universal Cotton Supreme and Cotton Supreme DK: These solid cottons carry a lot of bang for their buck! We sell them for $8 a skein.
  • Noro Uchiwa and Kakigori: These yarns from Noro are both blends of cotton, silk, and manufactured fibers. Uchiwa is slightly thicker than Kakigori. We love the playful colors and textures of these yarns!
  • Malabrigo Susurro: Susurro is 50% silk, 25% linen, and 25% wool. This gorgeous hand-dyed yarn has a wonderful drape and sheen!
