Description: Learn to sew an adorable stuffed kitty with accompanying clothes! Kristin has designed this pattern and will walk you through all the steps to create an adorable toy. Bring your own machine or use one of ours! During the first session of class you will make clothing, and during the session you will make the kitty toy. You'll learn about basic doll making and clothing construction, with lots of tips, tricks and tools including hemming, clipping curves, inserting an elastic, top stitching, etc. This class is for ages 14 and up, and those aged 10-14 may attend alongside an adult who has also purchased the class.
Prior skills recommended: This is a beginner friendly class. Students should already know how to thread and use their machine, how to sew a straight and zigzag stitch.
Materials needed: For the first session of class you will need:
- The patterns for the kitty and clothes, available on Kristin's website
- 4 different cotton fabrics at ¼ yard
- (2) 8” lengths of ¼” elastic
- Paper scissors
- Pinking Shears (optional)
- Sewing machine with a wound bobbin in a neutral thread (just bring thread if you're using one of Harmony's machines)
- Basic sewing kit: scissors, pins, seam ripper, etc.
For the second session you'll need:
- ¼ yard cotton fabric or fat quarter
- ⅛ yard cotton fabric for inside of ears
- (2) 14 - 19mm buttons for the arms
- Paper scissors
- Pinking Shears (optional)
- Sewing machine with a wound bobbin in a matching thread
- Basic sewing kit: scissors, pins, seam ripper, etc.
***Stuffing is included in the price of the course as well as a cute little fabric tag
When: This class takes place on two Saturdays:
- May 11, 2:30-5:30pm
- May 18, 2:30-5:30pm
Prep work: Before the first session of class students will be expected to:
- Purchase, wash, dry, and iron fabric
- Purchase and print pattern and cut necessary pieces
- Cut all pattern pieces out of fabric
Class Policies: Materials that you buy in person at Harmony for your class will be 20% off. Class fees are not refundable or exchangeable for any reason. Classes with 2 or fewer sign ups will be canceled, and if the class is canceled students will be notified via email 2 days before the class begins. All classes are held in-person at Harmony.
